LATE: The Mythical Man-Month Ch 1 - 3

Reference Information:

Title: The Mythical Man-Month
Author: Fredrick P. Brooks, JR.

Summary:
In the first chapter, the author talks about how programming is similar to tar pits. The more you try to struggle and resist with programming, the more trouble you end up in. He also discusses the joys and woes of programming. The second chapter discusses how lack of calendar time is a huge reason software projects go awry. The author discusses many fallacies such as the thought that that men and months are interchangeable, that estimations are perfect, or that throwing more manpower at a software problem will help. In the third chapter, the author discusses the problem with having too many people trying to make a system, and also how having a small amount of smart programmers is also insufficient. The author then discusses Mills's proposal which has one person, the surgeon, and a team built around them to make good software.

Discussion:
The last chapter was really interesting. I thought mills proposal was an interesting concept of a programming team which I had not heard of before. I have personally been affected by due dates causing code of lesser quality so I also enjoyed chapter two.
